When I point Finder at my NAS or at any other Mac on my network, I get a view that doesn't include the left side of the data line. I have to slide the horizontal slider to see Name. This happens no matter how wide the finder window is.

This only happens with machines on the network.

Once I slide to the left, I see it all and until I reboot it stays good. I have to do it once for each machine or NAS on my network.

Upon reboot, it's back to the bad old way.

None of my other Macs do this. I cannot figure out what I must have set incorrectly.

10.5.4, but it's not a new problem.

Any ideas?

After all this, I found the answer indirectly.

Relaunch Finder.

alt-right click, choose Relaunch.

Done.
