This has been a problem for me for the last few years. Finder says I have "XXGB available", but adding up the individual folders within would prove to be much less space.

I've recently moved everything except applications off my internal drive. Strictly using it as a scratch disk for Adobe programs now. So, my home folder now contains image artwork for iTunes and and absolutely nothing else. the iTunes folder is 2GB, finder is telling me my home folder is 40GB...what is goin on here and how do I resolve this?

thanks!

Ditch your com.apple.finder.plist file. The OS will make a new set of preferences for Finder set to factory defaults. It might clear up this problem, and it's harmless.

The file is in your Home folder / Library / Preferences

Your home folder is probably hidden (depending on your OS version) so try holding down Option, then click Go in the menu. Pick Library from the pull down, then open Preferences. Drag that file to the Desktop (for restoring if you think you might want to) or to the Trash. Then Restart.
