Hey guys,

I starting to think that my hard drive is starting to go but hoping that someone can recommend something I haven't thought of??

Problem:
- system responding slow (comes and goes)
- unresponsive for awhile sometimes with spinnig wheel
- boot up time extremely long but desktop does finally come up

Troubleshooting:
- 'finder not responding' in activity monitor when lock ups occur
- have verified/repaired disk permissions (I do go an error saying failed to repair and many look to be "Java" related)
- have verified and repaired volume in disk utility (appeared to be successful)
- many reboots

Specs:
- IMac
- Dual Core 3.02 GHZ
- 100 gigs left in a 500 gig hard drive

Thanks guys!

Finder Not Responding: Lion and Mountain Lion

After upgrading to Mountain Lion, Finder frequently became not responsive. The culprit was the "All My Files" feature in the sidebar. Finder gets hung sorting and displaying the 15 gazillion files on my disk.

Here's how to fix it:

Open Finder Preferences.
Under Sidebar, uncheck "All My Files"
Under General, set "New Finder windows show:" to anything but "All My Files".
