Finder not responding

Hi

I've done an normal install and everthing seemed to work fine (no blue screen) expect now the finder doesn't appear to be working. Applications are working fine, it's says 10.5 in About this Mac. Any suggestions?

Help! I my system is (unsurprisingly) really unstable. I can see everything (places, documents, networks, OS X install dvd etc) when i select file>open in an application such as pages but the rest of the time the finder just crashes.

Any ideas? Is there anyway i can get the install dvd to launch with out finder to try and re-install?
