Hi people,

A simple (I hope) Finder question -- how can I configure it, in column view, to list the folders first and then the files, instead of listing them together?

Am.

Simple.

Open finder in column view then click on the "Kind" to the right.
It will list the contents by kind.Do it a couple times and the folders will be listed first followed by the files.

i think you're referring to list view and not column view. i don't think it's possible to do this in column view, though i think it's a new feature in leopard.
