Hello

I opened the folder in which I can see the file in question. Just to make sure the file does exist :)

Surprisingly when I type the search-sting in the Finder-Search field an hit enter, "my" file is not found :(
It does not make a difference if the whole filename or only some chars are searched for.
.

Question:
What am I doing wrong?

Thank's in advance for any clarification!

Bill

I have attached two photos:

I'm using Monterey 12.6.7 on a 5,1 Mac Pro, and this is a Search from the Desktop.

My results are exactly as I would expect....

Do you have any screenies you could offer-up to further diagnose?

Personally, I'd say "ignore Finder's search and just download EasyFind instead". I've also had Finder refuse to find files that are staring it in the face.

Check to see if, in System Settings (or System Preferences on older macOS), the drive is being excluded from Spotlight indexing.
From (x) Application to (x) System Preferences erverthing is marked.

2.
By the way..my idea was that Spotlight has it's own index, completely separated from Finder. Is this not the case?

Not sure what you mean by the first sentence. A screenshot might help.

The macOS Finder uses the Spotlight index…as do some third-party searching apps. The ones that don't will take longer to perform a search. Anything excluded from Spotlight indexing will not show up in a Finder search.
