I think this picture says it all:

"Finder > Get Info" was working a few days ago and showed the correct usage of my 1TB hard drive (~414GB). It is now showing a mere ~267GB. I thought I had accidentally deleted something critical until I ran Disk Inventory X which confirmed that everything is still there.

The only think that changed between then and now is the activation of iTunes Match.

Any ideas? Any insight is much appreciated.

I have the same exact issue in my brand new 750 gb mbp.
Finder or Get Info shows only 50 gb used where in reality I'm using 112 gb. Disk Utility shows the correct usage. This is very weird and slightly annoying.
Any ideas anyone?

Don't remove local snapshots, there is no problem here.

Finder does not count local snapshots as they will be removed as soon as you run low on disk space. Everything's working as it should here.
