I believe this began on Monday when I applied the newest security patch (or maybe I applied it sunday? Can't remember)

Basically, if I'm in a program for a minute or two, this can include preferences for Finder itself, when I switch over to finder, it hangs for about 15 seconds before responding. I've verified the Disk & permissions. I've cleared various caches via onyx, deleted the finder .plist file and I've rebooted a few times during those attempts at fixing. It "might" be better, or it might be the same. It seemed longer before, but I didn't actually time it before I started trying to fix it.

Any suggestions? It happens when no real programs are active except for Activity Monitor, or if my machine is under normal use. Finder does not have any real activity during these hangs, nor is it busy updating spotlight. It just hesitates, seemingly doing nothing during those 15 seconds. I see that there were lots of beach ball issues in Mavericks back at the end of last year, but I don't see any useful tips from google. Is there a way to reapply ALL patches to my computer, assuming that something fizzled during that last incremental update?
