It's back to having a mind of it's own; this happens randomly, and has happened over multiple major versions of macOS for years.

No matter where my last Finder window(s) are or what their view settings are when closing, opening a new window (after all are closed) opens it on the 2nd screen with Columns layout selected. It's driving me crazy.

What's the solution?

Or how do I troubleshoot it? (Please no guesses without experience...)

I discovered probably the problem and solution.

Apparently when clicking on the desktop, the Finder assigns its default window-opening location to that desktop.

When I read this - https://www.mac-forums.com/threads/dual-monitor-finder-frustration.362420/#post-1875566 - I closed all windows and clicked on the first desktop screen, then opened Finder. It opened on that desktop.

I closed the window, clicked on the 2nd desktop, then opened Finder... it opened on that desktop.

Doing it again on the 1st desktop made the new window open on that desktop's screen. This works even with all windows open.

Such a silly, stupid feature. It should remember where I last closed or used a window, and open on that side. It shouldn't require me clicking on a desktop.

Per that thread, earlier, someone mentioned getting an Options sub-menu when "right-clicking" Finder from the Dock... well, like another user there, I also don't get an Options sub-menu. I don't know why this is. It's just another big mystery from Apple. Yay.
