finder/superdrive locking up

I have 2 cd's which is filled with pictures. I wanted to put them on to my HD into iphoto and eventually make a book, but when i scroll through the photo's in finder with the column view to see the preview after a while it locks up and i just get a beach ball and the superdrive just makes noises like its about take off like a 747. I then have to do command+option+esc to force quite finder...
First i thought the cd was bad but the cd looks fine. i tryed it on another computer (PM G5) and it works fine...
Is their something wrong... Could i be scrolling to fast causing it to lock up.
Any thoughts...

not sure how to fix the problem but you might want to try to copy all the pictures to your HD first and then sort through them.
