finder window icons not changing

ive copied and pasted an icon to one of my dropbox folders in the sidebar in finder, it pastes it in the 'get info' part. but it doesn't show the new icon in the finder window. any ideas?

From what I can tell a custom icon does in not show in Finder sidebar. Even the standard icons look different on the sidebar. Just look at the difference between the mounted boot drive icon on the Desktop and Finder window, vs. the Finder sidebar. Even the Applications folder is different in how it is displayed on the Finder sidebar vs. Finder window. It looks like expected behavior.
