I searched the forum and didn't see this in any thread. Also if this is not the correct forum please point me in the right direction.

Occasionally I'll have Finder windows minimized (~5-8 in "minimize to icon" mode).

When I go to select a window to maximize, it will appear to maximize then disappear. At first I thought this was because some window states were saved after upgrading from Mountain Lion. However, after closing all previous windows and then minimizing new ones, the same thing has happened several times.

While the windows are hidden, they are not closed - which I only realized when I right-clicked the finder and saw a list of ~20 windows. I could close them using the c-W shortcut but cannot see them.

Any advice or suggestions as to what is causing this?

Information:
Hardware: MBP late 08
Software: 10.9 (upgraded from 10.8)

My unminimized finder windows disappear after shutting down. All other open applications and windows re-open after startup.

I realize this thread is old, but I have this exact problem on multiple macs. Including the 10.10 betas

It may or may not be related to Finder Tabs. But I usually have multiple finder tabs in a window. It only happens after a restart, and usually when the window in question is minimized to the dock when the computer was shutdown.

My workaround was to force relaunch finder a few times and then the windows would eventually appear. I've also closed the phantom windows then click the finder icon and the phantom windows would re-launch correctly.

I filed a bug–with screencast– to apple back when 10.9 was in beta, but I've not had any activity on it since. I may bump the issue and file a new bug for 10.10.
