before Catalina, i frequently used the storage are that was called On My Mac.
although i use iCloud Drive that syncs Documents, Desktop, and Downloads, before Catalina i used the area On My Mac to store copies of critical files locally on my mac.
by moving copies of these files to that area it always warned that by moving it to an area iCloud Drive couldn't reach it would delete the file (which was only a copy of the original file) from iCloud. this was what i intended and it worked as a locally stored backup that was truly a backup in case i deleted the file out of iCloud Drive.

now with Catalina, the Macintosh HD Data partition seems to have done away with this ready made On My Mac storage area.
(i realized this when the files i had stored that were in a Recovered folder when i installed Catalina)

is Catalina's Data drive space partitionable to manually create this kind of local space?
