I'm trying to find a good webserver on a stick program so I can install some form of wiki on a stick (I'm leaning towards something like DokuWiki or MediaWiki for the wiki engine). However, I'm having trouble finding the webserver that I can easily install on, say, a USB flash drive.

Anyone with recommendations?

Portable web servers are typically used for personal wiki installations - so, for example, you can access your notes from a public terminal.

From http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Manual:Wiki_on_a_stick: "Having a personal wiki as a wiki on a stick is useful for demonstrations, personal knowledge management, sophisticated note-taking, or super-fast installations using a simple copy."

I suppose it would be helpful if there was something in that post, I agree with r.j.s. about this not being the best of ideas.

I find wiki-on-a-stick very useful: suppose you are a student and you have a primary computer at home but away from home you have to resort to a public terminal or borrowing someone else's computer. I find it ideal for me to organize my loose notes - better than, say, a small notebook or scrapbook program that fits on a stick.

The only webserver-on-a-stick solutions I have found all use Windows embedded server stuff (for example, http://www.splitbrain.org/blog/2008-05/16-dokuwiki_on_a_stick_2008-05-05 describes DokuWiki on a Stick, which uses a portable Apache for Windows).

If you still think webserver-on-a-stick or wiki-on-a-stick is a bad idea, then what would you consider an acceptable alternative?
