I've got a problem with a new iMac running Leopard. When trying to print a document, it takes seemingly forever (actually 2 to 3 minutes) for the Mac to find the USB printer (an HP 4215 OfficeJet). This is especially bad for MS Word 2008, which will give the spinning beach ball every once in a while even if you aren't printing. (It will say that it's looking for the printer.)
Here's what I've tried -
Fixing permissions.
Deleting and re-adding the printer.
updating to the latest HP drivers from Apple.
Deleting all of the drivers and trying HP's old 10.4 drivers.
Resetting the printer
Trying with and without printer sharing enabled.
Trying from another user account.
(oh yeah, various reboots along the way)
I've also direct connected the printer to my MBP running Leopard, and it works perfectly.
We've contacted Apple to no avail. They didn't have any ideas that hadn't already been tried.
Any ideas out there?
thanks
