I posted a few years back about how to save on ISP bills, one of the tips was to switch ISPs (if one had an option to) to get the new customer rate which is usually cheaper. Negotiating doesn't always work, but switching services alway got me a cheap rate.

I have been doing this for maybe 8 or 9 years, switching back and forth from FiOS to Xfinity, never paying more than $39.99 for service, and sometimes as low as $29.99 a month. I typically would have 100Mbps download speed, with upload speed varying depending on whether I am with Comcast or Fios.

Yesterday, I switched to back to Comcast, as my "new customer" rate with FiOS was expiring in a few days, and today I called Verizon to terminate my FiOS service.

I was very happy to hear that Verizon has finally listen to the customers like me that would much rather stick with their service, but at the "new customer" rate.

You go on a website, and view options for your plan, and sign up without making a phone call or negotiating.

The website:

Go to "Change My Plan", and it will give you a few options, one option matched my "new customer" rate, but even better, if you click "other options", they have more plans.

I was able to get 200Mbps up and down for $39.99 a month, the same price I was paying for 100Mbps.

Anyways, I was happy to hear this from the excellent FiOS customer service rep, and wanted to pass a long the news.

Please let me know if anyone tries this, if it works for you, and what you are able to sign up for.

I posted the website on a local forum in my area, and there have a been many posts of people saying that the website worked for them.

While they don't all post how much they are saving, one lady responded saying that she saved $35 a month on your ISP bill.

I was able to get 200Mbps up and down for $39.99 a month, the same price I was paying for 100Mbps.
I checked the speeds that I am getting using the SpeedTest app, and it looks like that I am getting much higher than the speeds I am paying for.

It appears that Verizon is over-provisioning the tier speeds by 50% or more.

While I am suppose to have 200Mbps up and down, I am actually getting over 300Mbps down, and about 350Mbps up.

This is way overkill in speed for me, and probably the huge majority of people, but it didn't cost anymore than their lowest speed, so why not?

Anyways, if you are a current FiOS user it is definitely worth checking out the link to see if what discount you qualify for.
