Just came to post this. At this price I might pick one up. It's a powerful device for just $199 and fully unlocked now for all carriers.

I really was thinking about it, but I have a few apps that are android/IOS only. Moviepass is one of them =/

Can you side load apps or root the phone? Without much of the google experience I think its seriously hamstrung, and even at 199, its not worth it.

Looks like you're right, no Google apps = no buy. I suppose they'll still sell a lot of these at this price to casual users and big fans of Amazon content.

I think it could be a success for Amazon customers, and with the new price point it could help, but for most people, its still a bad option imo

With locked bootloader, it's not much use even with that price.

Drop it to $99, then I'll be interested. I had an opportunity to get one in mint condition for $140 last week, and passed on it. For $200, I'd rather get another mint condition Moto X + accessories.

Predicted this would happen the minute this came out. Glad to see I was right. I can see this being another HP Touchpad. I expect dev support to pick up a lot. Basically nexus 5 specs for almost half the price. I can see it being a good starter phone for a teenager as well. Has the essentials such as facebook, twitter, pinterest etc. as well as the popular casual titles.

If Amazon had priced the phone at $199 and unlocked more would have been receptive to their phone. I also believe they should have sold a service similar to Walmart's Straight Talk for a flat monthly fee. The phone is basically a portal to their store.

As shrewd and forward thinking as Jeff Bezos is, i'm still puzzled why he totally missed the plot.

Since $99 for one year of Amazon Prime is included there is your price point. If you use Prime.

I have prime anyway. And 100bucks for a backup phone/android toy with 32GB sounds really good.

Is it compatible with all android apps?

^Good old hp touchpad ;)

Anyone know if you can get google play on it somehow?

Haha, damn - when those things dropped we sold a crap ton of them when I worked at Best Buy....

I just bought one to check it out. Can return it if need be. Figure why not right?

yea for $100 (if prime is worth something to you) should be able to find something worthwhile to do with it ;)
