A fire poker, that wasn't properly put away, slid out and landed on my friends mbp. The dents were so deep that that it made the screen break. He goes back to college on sunday, does anyone know what the people at the mac store will tell him when he goes tomorrow?

he has applecare, if that means anything.

Thanks.

They will take a gun out and shoot your friend's wallet causing $1k in damage to the credit cards.

AppleCare will not cover accidental damage. I think your friend will get a hefty repair estimate. Sorry to hear about that.

Some have had luck with homeowners insurance policies
I have no idea what the insurance company would say about this

Well the fireplace is behind my friends' chair, he got up out of the chair, and knocked over the fire poker. Does anyone know how much it would cost to get it repaired?

Depends on the amount of damage, and we have no way of knowing that without examining the computer... but I would say no less than $1,000

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE tell us that you have some pictures of the damage. I have got to see that.

Now that you mention it, I'm curious to see what the damage looks like. The "coolest" damage I've ever seen done to a MacBook(Pro) is one done by a dog, so I want to see how bad the damage is especially since the fire poker hit the outside, not the inside.

I always wondered what the maximum amount of money apple would charge to repair a computer. Sometimes it seems as if it would be just as easy to buy a completely new one.

to OP: I have no idea what they'll say at the apple store. Good luck though.

Replacing the screen assembly (to fix the dents on the aluminum and the broken screen) will be about $900-1200 if you ask Apple to do it.

Replacing only the display (keeping the dented aluminum) should run about $500 if you have a third party do it.

Where do you live where it is still cold enough to have a fireplace? o_O

Edit:

my bad lol, the fire poker doesn't need to necessarily be hot in order to cause damage.

Shoot! Saw this thread get several post today and noticed the "1 attachemet(s)" sign. Opened it expecting a huge dent on a lid of MBP, only to find a generic fire poker.
