Fire Wire Boot Drive/storage password protect how to ???

I have a External Firewire HD that I made into a boot drive/storage what I want to do is have it password protected much like how the Maxtor Onetouch II external HD have a password protect feature is there any way or is there any software I could buy to do this let me know how can I can do this and where to get the soft ware any help would be gratly appreciated
