In Firefox 34.0.5, if I press command-W, it will close the tab but not the window. It used to close the window in previows versions. How can I edit this shortcut in order to close the window?

I know command-shift-W closes the window, but I want to change this to simply command-W. Perhaps I can trade these two shortcuts in about:config?

It's always been Cmd+W if I'm not mistaken.

And for crying out loud, your version of Firefox is so ancient to the point that it's susceptible to many security loopholes.

You should be on 37.0.1 by now.
