Firefox beach balling

Im not sure if this is related to firefox or not but whenever I start up my mac and open firefox after about 5 minutes I get a get the beach ball for approximately 1 minute. Although this happens mainly in this instance it has also happened with other programs before. After it has had its little hissy fit, it doesn't do it again until I restart the mac. Does anyone have and solutions to this problem.

I have always found Firefox to be slow on initial startup, much slower than other browsers
I don't know if that is directly related to add-ons or not, because I have very few

As with you, once it has finally started, it isn't an issue

Well I have just downloaded Chrome, think i will give it a try and see if it resolves my problems
