for some reason I can't get rid of this glitch.

Do you happen to have FoxTab installed? Because I, too, experienced this glitch when I had the FoxTab add-on installed, but when I disabled/uninstalled it, the glitch disappeared!

Btw, is that really a default Firefox theme you're using? Or is that a Tiger Firefox version or something (since there's no "stoplight" Leopard buttons)?

FoxTab is the malefactor. I have in my themes http://www.takebacktheweb.org/ already a modification to prevent the bug.

It works naturally as well with the default theme.
Add this to your userChrome.css:

/* ..... FoxTab .... */

#foxTab_iframe_container {
background-color: transparent !important;
margin-left: -5px !important;
}
