I recently have tried using Firefox again and am pleasantly surprised with the progress they have made since I last used it (version 7 or 8 I think). I noticed that they have not enabled the disappearing scrollbars or rubber band scrolling natively and was wondering if there is any way to get this functionality through changing settings in about:config or by installing extensions?

Mozilla has a page on their wiki for OS X Lion support which holds some of the ideas like the rubberband scrolling as well as the disappearing scrollbars: OS X 10.7 support. Should give you some idea about what they are doing and how far along they are (not very far I can tell you but it seems they are aiming at Firefox 16 which should be available somewhere at the end of 2012).
