firefox mac version auto searches with yahoo

my friends macbook has firefox 3 installed and for some reason when she tries to type the name of a site and not the .com / .net or whatever it auto searches with a yahoo search and not just loads the page like a normal install of firefox would. i have no idea how to fix it so is there anyone else out there who had this happen and how did you fix it?
 
In the top right of the Firefox window where there is a little search box, Press the down arrow slightly to the right of the Red Yahoo "Y!" and choose your default search provider. I set mine to Google.
