Firefox not always responding to Bookmarks

I'm running Firefox 109.1 on Mojave 10.14.6 and Firefox is not always responding to the bookmarks on the toolbar, more often not. Clicking on a bookmark frequently opens my default Gmail page. It's so frustrating though it might work after clicking on the bookmark icon five or six times so what is happening? Help please.
