I'm very new to OS X, so this might be a stupid question,
I installed Firefox and Thunderbird today. For each a volume installed itself on the desktop. Do they install themselves differently than other applications?
Those volumes must stay for the appliaction to work?

no, u
1. double click the volume to open it
2. drag the icon inside to your local folder, normally "application" folder
3. unmount the volume.

u can open ur firefox/thunderbird by double click the icon in application folder.
