Firefox update kills history

The continuous updates of firefox have a very annoying side effect on my history and bookmarks, on my Macosx 10.6.8
All recent history and bookmarks are wiped upon update: the directory in the profile path is basically built from scratch.
The only way to recover my history is to time-machine back my directory in "Application Support/firefox" but this is REALLY annoying. Any ideas what is the origin of this?
