Firewall: On or OFF ?

I noted the new MBP 9.0 I just got had the "Firewall" turned off. This is part of the security system for the Mac Right ? I turned it on.
Please Advise !
 
I have mine turned on. In my opinion it is the type of thing that should be on by default.
