I last used a Mac back in 2001 when Norton was the thing to have.

I now have a MacPro and am looking for software to buy. One of the types of software that boggles me is the firewall software. Are there little or no software companies that make firewall software anymore? I have read that most software bundles are just programs to configure apple's own built-in firewall, ipfw.

If that is the case then where can I get a good configuration tool or is there a good name of a firewall software program I can buy at the local computer store.

Last question, is additional firewall software even needed for a Mac?

You don't really need any additional firewall/av software for the mac. All that stuff seems to do is gunk up the works. Just go to the sharing section of system preferences, click the firewall tab and start the firewall and you'll be fine. ;)
