I'm looking for a good and affordable firewall, I'm new to mac software so I'm not sure what is best or good on the mac, recommendations? with links if possible.

Just use the built in one.

turn on built in firewall system pref.>security>firewall> set to essential services(middle one) click advanced and enable stealth mode and press Ok, good for most people unless you do extreme stuff, for that use netbarrier by intego

The built in application based firewall is fine for most users, as mentioned above.

The strongest firewall is called IPFW, which is a UNIX firewall and is included in OS X, but is disabled by default.

It's easy to configure by downloading "WaterRoof".
