I'm transferring 40 gigs over firewire 400 and it's taking 3+ hours. I read that it's tested speed is around 38 megs a sec. That would make my transfter take around 20 minutes. What's happening? Why so slow? :(

BTW i'm transferring files from a mounted image on one cpu to another.

Thanks

the speed of your hard drives is the limiting factor i.e. how fast the hard drive can read the data and how fast the recieving hard drive can write the data. the firewire network isn't the problem.

Is one of the images encrypted? The CPU has to decrypt/encrypt everything on the fly which will peg your CPU and slow it down a LOT. Even unencrypted images are slower than transferring stuff not inside an image because an image is a filesystem within a filesystem.
