Firewire 400 to 800 converter iMovie issue

Hi,
iMovie won't hold a constant connect with my video recorder when plugged into a firewire 400 to 800 converter plugged into my mac. The camera import window keeps opening and closing. Is it a dodgy converter or something?

What converter is it?


I have several cables that are FW400 on one end and FW800 on the other (bought for a few bucks each at monoprice or cablestogo, FWIW). They work everywhere I've ever tried them. So unless the converter is specifically needed for video, it seems like you could replace the converter with a cable having the correct connectors.

Perhaps it has a loose connection or something. I've just bought a cable instead.
