Firewire 800, 7200rpm external that works with MBP 8,2?

I have a Early 2011 Macbook Pro (8,2). I'm looking for a speedy external harddrive to do video editing with. My internal drive is a 256GB OCZ Agility 3 SSD...not a lot of space to store video. So I'd like a fast external.

Problem is, the few Firewire 800, 7200 rpm external drives I've found on Amazon all have TERRIBLE reviews when used with Macs. For some reason, none of these things from Buffalo or Western Digital seem to work with Macs, according to Amazon reviews.

Can anyone recommend a 1 TB external with Firewire 800 and 7200rpm that would be good for video editing, that also works on a Mac 8,2 Early 2011 running the latest OS X?

You shouldn't get fixated on 7200rpm, as the 796mb full duplex throughput on FW800 is going to be the bottleneck long before the drive speed is.

I doubt it, not all drives go over 100mb/s, and even those that too gradually drop speed as you fill them up.

Still, for 2011 MBP I'd highly suggest a thunderbolt raid0 solution.

dual Velociraptors sounds fun.

I'd love a thunderbolt raid0 drive...but they're just a bit out of my budget. :(
 
Take a look at OWC solutions, you could use a TB>eSATA converter, use an OWC mercury double for 2.5" drives and use 2x WD Scorpio Blue and still get around 160mb/s speed.
