So about a month and half ago, out of nowhere, my firewire 400 hard drive started just randomly dismounting themselves. I had to re-salvage my hard drives with diskwarrior several times. At first I thought my hard drive was defective so Iomega replaced it for me. When I got it back, this crap was still happening. Took it to the apple store, turns out that out of nowhere there was something physically wrong with the firewire port in the macbook. $280 to replace since my macbook is long out of warantee. For another, my bluetooth in there has never worked correctly either as it literally just gets "plugged" and "unplugged" from inside the computer - this caused crazy problems for the early versions of boot camp with me but I didn't really need that anyway.

This is interesting to me because my friend who is also an audio engineer has the same kind of macbook and his audio interface would keep randomly unmounting itself when it was plugged into firewire.

The ultimate question is: has anyone else experience this, and is there any cheaper way to replace the motherboard other than apple's $280 flat fee? Just the motherboards on ebay run for $250 so that makes apple's deal look worth it, but there might be something I don't know about
