I have a WD My Home external for Time Machine. It is firewire 400. What cable to I need to get it to my new MBP? 6 pin to 4 pin?

Thanks for the help.

edit - Or should I just use USB? I don't think there'd be much difference in speed.

If you already have a 6-pin to 6-pin cable, just get a 9-pin to 6-pin adapter.

Like this SIIG version.

FireWire in general is much faster than USB 2.0.

Cool thanks for the link.

So, Firewire 800 is 9 pin?

Yes, I just purchased a 9pin to 6pin cable from monoprice.com for my new 13" MacBook Pro. I installed an SSD and threw the 250gb hard drive in a firewire enclosure, and all works well. The cable + shipping was under 6 bucks, and the quality of monoprice stuff is hard to beat.

That reminds me, I need to get a stereo mini jack to optical cable :)

Edit: here's the link
