I hate to beat a dead horse, but I have been pouring over the forum for hours looking for an answer to my idea. In response to the endless debate over the new UMB not having firewire, my question is: Couldn't you connect an external harddrive via USB2 and daisychain your camera (or deck) using the firewire port on the harddrive? (assuming, of course, your external drive has both ports) I have always daisychained my deck & camera using the single firewire port on my PBG4 and the extra port on my external drive. What am I missing?

I ask, of course, because just like EVERYone else, I am in the dilemma of choosing a new machine - love the 13", but need that firewire... or do I?

Thanks for the help!

No.

USB 2.0 is not capable of the necessary bandwidth to transfer DV via Firewire. Remember that the data transfers in real time, and USB 2.0 is simply incapable of handling that much data.

No. That will not work. If you need firewire, and have a 13" unibody macbook, you're SOL.
