Firewire connection with camcorder

Hi,

I connected my Sony TRV17 to my MBP with a 6-4 sony firewire cable.
When I try to select the camera at quicktime the camera appears as: "DCR-TRV17E (unavailable)".

I can't see any video from the camera. With some other cables it work.

I see it's some kind of problem with the cable, but I found strange that the camera appears on the list in this case. So what can it be?
