I need to find a firewire 800 enclosure for my hard drives. They're hard to find these days. Any recommendations?
Akitio is exactly what I was looking for. Thanks SO much!A new or used one? I’m sure there’s used ones on eBay/similar; mechanical drive fails, most people will just buy a new drive.
I think akitio still make one? What Mac are you using, there may be an easier option than fw800 given its scarcity.
I'm both US and UK based.Where are you based? I’m in UK and I think I have a couple of the old OWC Mercury Elite Pro’s somewhere that were multi-interface like USB2 / FW800 / eSATA gathering dust I don’t mind offloading for v reasonable £... (use USB3 stuff these days...). PM me if you’re interested I’ll see if I can find them. May not be worth international shipping though.
Unless you happen to be using them with a Mac that has fw800 but not usb3.. in which case they’ll be woefully slow. They'll be just as fast
Lol I have plenty of USB 3 enclosures, I need a firewire one for a specific use case. But thanks. As much as I liked it, firewire is now a "technology fading off into the sunset".
I'd suggest you get USB3 enclosures instead.
They'll be just as fast, and are backward-compatible with USB2 as well.
If any of your drives are 2.5", this might be a good enclosure:
