hi there,
i've got a firewire drive that won't mount on my G5 powermac but will on my macbook. could there be a problem with the FW plug on the machine?

Firewire 400 or Firewire 800. The G5 has more than one 400 plug so you could test that. Does the dock on the G5 show the firewire drive? Does disk utility show the drive? Did you disconnect power to the drive without first unmounting it?

Verify and Repair it in Disk Utility on the working Mac.

Also Verify and Repair disk permissions of the OS drive in the problematic Mac.

I would recommend when your drive is connected to your G5 go to disk utility, and see if it can see the drive and try to mount it from there.
