I have an old firewire external optical drive that I would like to hook up to my iMac as a second drive for ripping/encoding DVD's. The drive is from an old tablet PC that I have laying around. When i plug the drive in, there is no reaction from the iMac, but if i go into the system profiler and click on the firewire tab, it scans for a while and says that it cannot access the information or something like that.

The drive is a Sony CRX830E and it is in an AOpen ESV-189i Pro external enclosure. It came with a Motion Computing M1300 tablet.

Is this a driver issue? If so, is there any hope for me to find a driver that will work with my mac, or should I just give up and move on?

One other note: I am currently connecting the 4 pin FW400 drive through a 9 pin to 6 pin and then a 6 pin to 4 pin adapter due to idiots on eBay that can't tell the difference. Would this affect it at all?
