Firewire powered HDD won't power down with Mac like normal Bus powered HDDs

Hi
i just recently bought a 250gb Iomega eGo Rugged Firewire 400/USB 2.0 HDD
and when i plugged it in with my Mac book Pro off it came on.
the power cable was plugged in to the laptop but it was off.
when i removed the MacBook Pro cord the drive shut down.
Why doesn't this power down like my other HDD, which is a WD Passport 320gb USB

i also have a firewire hard drive, and it doesn't shut down at all if the power switch is turned on. it's from LaCie. depending on the manufacturer or how the hard drive is made depends on whether it will shut down when unplugged, or start up when plugged in. this doesn't affect the performance or anything i think, so you shouldn't worry.

i have an OWC firewire 400/800 external hard drive and it spins down when my Mac goes to sleep or shuts down.
