Firewire problem w/ iMac G5

hey all.

i've got an iMac G5 running 10.4.1 that isn't mounting firewire drives. i've tried two lacie drives that work perfectly well on my iBook G4 running panther. nothing. i tried my iPod on the iMac as well...the iPod indicates that it is charging but it never shows up on the desktop and the iPod's screen never switches over to the "do not disconnect" mode. system profiler doesn't show any firewire devices connected.

i've run disk utility on the iMac's harddrive as well as the external drives. any other ideas?

Things to look into if the common factor is the computer:
bad cable, bad port, bad firewire board (I know it's integraded into the MB) on the g5. If it's either of the last two, then call Apple if you can.

Try diffrent cables, diffrent ports (front and back), and if nothing works, then I would call Apple.

Even if it turns out to be a bad port, call Apple.

Just because your getting firewire bus power, dosn't mean that the data portion is connecting.
