do these exist? I was discussing external hard drive enclosures with someone & they suggested getting one with an eSATA connection as this is even faster than firewire 800. They then said I could get a firewire express card slot.

I told them I have the unibody 2010 macbook pro that does not have this type of expansion slot, but it does have a single firewire 800/400 port, could I get an adapter that would plug into the firewire port & have an eSATA female end that I could hook up an external hard drive with an eSATA connection?

It would still be limited to the speed of firewire 800. Easier to just get a hard drive enclosure that has firewire 800. OWC (macsales.com) has enclosures that have firewire 800, 400, USB2 and esata.
