Sorry if this was posted in that bigass 2.0.1 thread but i don't have the time to look through like 12 pages of it. Simple question, can i use my current Pwnage Tool 2.0.1 to jailbreak the new firmware 2.0.1 for my 3G?

Thanks!

Some people are posting that upgrading with iTunes works, but (obviously) uninstalls Cydia/Jailbroken apps. So I guess there really is no point? http://blog.iphone-dev.org/

I don't know what is so obvious about Cydia being removed. Using the pwnage tool to generate a new custom install out of the 2.0.1 file means that Cydia is packaged into the install.

Can someone confirm that it doesn't work, i.e. that Cydia is not installed?

A jailbroken 3G or Gen 1 will sucessfully upgrade without losing your App Store data. However, Cydia and all associated mods are no longer accessible. I was concerned so I removed all apps before upgrade. In the past they cause problems because they remain in the directory.

Until the Pwnage software is updated we cannot create custom firmware from the 2.0.1 update. Look forward to Pwnage 2.0.2. LOL

Ah, okay, too bad :(

What about the unlock. Will the phone go back locked?

Most likely not, since we've never been able to before.
yes, you could jailbreak 3g iphones, just not unlock them

What about the unlock. Will the phone go back locked?
yes, 1st gen iphones will need re-unlocking, so you will need to wait for a new version of pwnage before you can upgrade and unlock

Dev Team have released this report on their blog:

http://blog.iphone-dev.org/post/44768633/to-update-or-not-to-update

Basically best to just wait for an update of Pwnage, especially for 3G users since it upgrades the baseband which may complicate things if you plan on unlocking in the future. If you're a 2G user it seems to be OK to update, but you'll no longer be running a jailbroken phone.

I'd just wait till an update of Pwnage in the coming week or so.

It seems it will remain unlocked (see link in my previous post), but this has just been reported and Dev Team hasn't yet confirmed it.

Confirm update to 2.0.1 - phone is still activated and unlocked

Hi,

i just upgraded my PWNAGED 2G phone to FW 2.0.1.
It is sill unlocked and activated!
As pointed out from many - the Cindy installer has been removed - but I can live with that.

Hope this info helps!
