I've got a 15" 1.25 PB. I have started burning DVDs and realize that the maximum speed is only 2x (takes a looong time at this speed). Can I update my firmware to burn at 4x? I have 4x DVD-R media (Memorex), and I thought this drive had potential for upgrade.

No.

A firmware update can SOMETIMES on CERTAIN models allow locked out features, like faster burning. But on the powerbook model the DVD is maxed at 2X.

You can apply a region free, and an ignore media speed firmware, but that will not help you much.

As for speed, in my experience, there is not a huge savings between 2X and 4X. Maybe 7 to 10 minutes. 8x with 8X media is faster, but again, its not proportional.
