Can someone please check the firmware version of their 96W USB-C Power Adapter A2166, MX0J2AM/A and post here. That is seen through System Information/Hardware/Power/AC Charger Information.

I have had to replace my original 87W USB-C Power Adapter A1719, MNF82LL/A, and want to verify what the most up to date firmware is for that newer model. Thx

I've got 1070051. For reference, this was from the charger given from the 16 inch MacBook Pro
Thank you. Someone on Reddit posted that same version as yours a year ago for a 16 inch. My original 87W USB-C Power Adapter A2166, is 1070069. I was wondering if anyone has seen this firmware updated after an OS update or Security update? I had a battery replaced a few months ago and AppleCare replaced the whole top case which included the keyboard. And when I did a Catalina Security Update after the replacement, the keyboard firmware was updated through the update, so I was wondering if these power adapter's firmwares sometimes get updated.

Can you tell me what country you are in? as I think the firmware versions are different for different countries. Thx

Firmware versions on the charger are really not something that‘s a concern. Charging logic is controlled by the device, not by the charger. It is also to be expected that different capacity chargers would have different firmware versions.

Thanks chrfr. But I am purchasing a replacement charger through OWC who is not an authorized Apple reseller, and yes I know that is sometimes not a very good idea, but I have been using them for 20 years and they guarantee they purchase in bulk from an Apple certified Apple manufacturer. There are tons of fakes on eBay and Amazon. And I even had some sellers tell me they couldn't verify their product when I told them I would be looking at all the System Information on the product when plugged in.

I received the one from OWC and if it is a fake, they deserve money for it because it is an exact duplicate of my original 87W, down to all the information in the System Information (except for model numbers and version numbers), which is where most of the fakes fail.

Anyone in the US have a firmware version for this unit? Thx

So why are you purchasing from them, then?
(The age old reason. $. COVID slammed me.) I have had good luck in the past with sellers buying in bulk with minimal packaging for various items through valid manufacturers. Yes, I hesitated, but I have to do what I need to get by right now. I have 20 year old Apple power adapters that still work to this day. This is the first one that is beginning to fail. All the other ones have direct wiring, unlike the newer models that have a USB-C plug. Whenever you introduce a mechanical connection, there is more potential for issues. The plug-in jacks on all my electronic devices has always been the longevity weak point in the system.

That being said, anyone have a US firmware version for this model? Thx

Wait, there’s firmware for chargers? How do I check that?
My original post states: "That is seen through System Information/Hardware/Power/AC Charger Information." Can you help me out with this specific charger and country? Thx

I’d sooner buy a 3rd party charger from a reputable vendor like Anker before I’d trust OWC to sell a legitimate Apple charger. The supposedly genuine Apple magsafe chargers they sell definitely don’t appear legitimate. I’d be more interested in the adapter’s serial number and whether it’s real, unique, and that what’s reported in System Report matches what’s shown on the adapter itself than the firmware version.

Thank you for the advice, but what is done is done and I am doing my best to verify. So the question still stands, anyone with a U.S. firmware version for this model?

And I have seen numerous fakes and there is something that I can identify physically and software that usually identifies the fake. The one I have is absolutely unidentifiable as a fake, thus the last line of verification is the current firmware version of this model. This is not a MagSafe charger, so I'm not sure what you are seeing for those.

Anyone?

Do the reported and stamped serials at least match?

Hey, if you have a way to verify serial numbers, please let me know. I have researched numerous serial number sites for this specific product and come up blank, that is why I was going for a more universal solution like firmware version...
