I've heard that new phones come on a first come first serve basis. So, if I were to arrive at an apple store on the 14th after work, (say 5pm), Is there a chance that no more iPhone 4S's will be available for that day? Should I just pre-order?

I don't think the 4S will sell as well as they would've hoped it would.
Needless to say, you may miss the first shipment, but then after, it will always be available.
by "first shipment", you do mean for that day? or will they get multiple shipments throughout the day?
I don't see why we can't have a pre-order for the retail stores like they did for the iPhone 4
right. I called my local apple store and they said no in store pickup this time.
