I recently had an early 2011 MBP start dying (3 beeps, I guess that's memory or GPU), bought a new 2015 MBP (old stock?). I was picking up a coffee cup, and the stone coaster came with it, and landed on the grill above the left speaker. I guess it's like getting the first dent on a guitar or a car, now I don't need to worry about the next one? Still mad at myself. And switched to a cardboard coaster.

I completely understand those freak moments when our expensive devices suffer damage unintended. Fortunately at least you didn't spill your drink on it as some have, which could have the made the situation a lot worse.

I am so picky about my systems I always get a shell of some sort. So far no issues with paint rubs. And never drink or eat when using a laptop for fear of spills. A dent would kinda ruin the whole machine for me, so I understand your frustration.

Was having the same problem with coasters staying stuck to my glass but I found the solution. I set my coasters upside down now. The fuzzy side doesn’t create a seal, eliminating this problem.
