Well, I noticed most apps are not aware of the notch, so when they put an icon in the menu bar and you encroach next to the notch, these icons going past the notch will hide under it. Still active, but you can't see them.

If the notch really bothers you and you don't care about the extra screen space for the menu, I recommend this utility called QuickRes - it seems to open up resolutions that completely ignore that space so it just seems like the large bezel on top is back.

I use that app, but how can we recover the lost space to the left and right of the notch?
