I have a first gen which I dropped and cracked 1/3 of the screen while calling out my friend at some park.
I still have warranty but how would that affect me as a developer.
Doesn't the iphone have an ID for itself and if I were to send in my itouch i'm afraid they'll give me a completely different itouch which might affect my developing. I am not too sure though.

Maybe you could write down your serial number to keep track of it. Or you could write down your UDID (which is found in iTunes). In iTunes (in iPod/iPhone area, while it is connected) you will see where it says "Serial number:" and if you click on it, it should change to "Identifier (UDID)".

I hope this helps! :)

if your a developer you should be ok just register the new UDID if they replace the device then you are set to go I don't get what you mean by how will it effect your developing?

Yeah, if they give you a new one just register it's UDID and unregister the one for the iPod you no longer have.
